Long Beach State basketball lands Cal transfer Devin Askew

Devin Askew, a former Mater Dei High star who spent two injury-plagued seasons at Cal before entering the transfer portal last month, has committed to play his final college season at Long Beach State. LBSU will be the fourth school for Askew, a former five-star recruit who began his college career at Kentucky in the 2020-21 season, then played one season at Texas before spending the past two seasons in Berkeley. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound point guard was Cal's leading scorer in 2022-23, when he averaged 15.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists, but he played in just 13 games (all starts) because he suffered a sports hernia. Askew opened the 2023-24 season as Cal's starting point guard, but he was limited to six games before being shut down on Jan. 9 with what proved to be a season-ending foot injury.
