C Andrew Bynum is trying to shake the reputation that he is injury-prone, so he's glad his latest situation was just a close call. Bynum had his right arm pulled back late in the Lakers' overtime victory Wednesday night in Houston on a foul by Rockets center Chuck Hayes. Bynum managed to overcome the pain and make one free throw that was the winning margin. Bynum was happy about the result but in so much discomfort from hyperextending his elbow that he could hardly put on his street clothes afterward. An MRI on Thursday showed just a strained elbow, however, making Bynum day-to-day instead of month-to-month, as he has been the past two seasons after knee injuries.
"I'm just relieved it's nothing too serious," Bynum said. Bynum didn't play Friday night against Memphis, which he said was perhaps a silver lining for him considering he was facing the Grizzlies both times he went down with knee injuries. Bynum is hopeful he can play Sunday night against New Orleans. He has been enjoying heavy minutes and delivering good production while Pau Gasol has been slow to come back from a hamstring injury. |
