Bay went 1-for-4 with an RBI double in the Red Sox' loss to the Mariners Friday. Recommendation: He and David Ortiz flipped batting spots (Bay hit fifth, Ortiz fourth) against the Mariners' Felix Hernandez, but the move appears to be temporary. He is now 9-for-55 over his past 14 games, and he has seen his batting average fall from .286 to .262. |

OF Jason Bay snapped an 0-for-17 skid when he slammed a ground-rule double into the right field stands in the bottom of the first inning Friday night. Sox manager Terry Francona acknowledged before the game that his left fielder was scuffling in recent weeks, and responded by dropping Bay into the fifth spot in the batting order. "Jason has had a tough time lately," said Francona. "He hasn't dealt with a slump since he's been here. That's why we like him so much." |
