Death of person found near burned pickup truck investigated

Apr. 29—SAINT CLAIR — Police are investigating the death of a person found near a burning pickup truck on the Burma Road early Saturday.

Saint Clair firefighters were called to 781 Burma Road around 5 a.m. for a report of a vehicle fire, where they found the pickup truck ablaze.

The vehicle was on the opposite side of the road, across from the entrance to the parking lot of Famous Reading Outdoors, a location used for ATV and motorbike riders.

After firefighters extinguished the blaze, they discovered the person lying in brush in the area of the truck, reportedly with burns.

Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Brad Wood said he pronounced the victim dead at 6:35 a.m. He referred any other questions to either state police at Frackville or Saint Clair police.

State police investigators and Saint Clair officers remained on scene until after 10 a.m., inspecting the truck to determine how the fire started.
