  • Mostly NFL Notes: Talking Tony Romo and a look around the league in Week 16

Dalton Del Don at Roto Arcade 6 hrs ago

Andrew Luck might very well be listed as the No. 1 QB by most entering 2015, but he finished with 109 yards and a 0:2 TD:INT ratio in the fantasy championship before getting benched in a game that had an O/U of 55+ points. It was actually fitting for Week 16, when many fantasy “stars” struggled, as the finals became something of a battle of attrition...Give DeMarco Murray credit for playing through pain, even if he gained just 58 yards on 22 carries (he at least scored)...The fake punt called by Indy was brilliant. The execution, not so much...With T.Y. Hilton inactive and Reggie Wayne one step from retirement, Donte Moncrief looked like a great sleeper in Week 16. Instead, he totaled five yards on three targets (which was still better than Dwayne Allen, who pulled down zero of his three targets)...Tony Romo threw four touchdowns on 20 attempts (Brandon Weeden added another on one throw), completing a remarkable 90.0 percent of his passes while getting 10.9 YPA. Romo has an 18:1 TD:INT ratio over seven games ON THE ROAD this season, and Dallas held the Colts to one rushing yard Sunday. The Cowboys are no joke and are a threat to come out of the NFC.

  • NBA look ahead: The Fantasy Five

Dalton Del Don at Roto Arcade 2 days ago

This column will concentrate on borderline fantasy options who should get strong consideration to start/bench during the upcoming week based on schedules.

Shabazz Muhammad: Despite averaging 19.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 0.9 steals while hitting 53.0 percent of his shots from the floor over the past eight games, he’s owned in just 28 percent of Yahoo leagues, which needs to be rectified immediately. He may be playing a bit over his head, but after getting inserted into the starting lineup Friday, he produced a couple of threes and a career-high five assists. Muhammad has averaged 16.0 field goal attempts over the past five games (he came off the bench in four of them). To put this in perspective, that would rank No. 18 in the league this season, ahead of players like Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard, Kyrie Irving and Dirk Nowitzki. Muhammad may eventually lose playing time when Kevin Martin returns, but he’s looking at a big increase in Usage Rate with Corey Brewer traded to Houston, so while Minnesota plays three games in Week nine, he’s well worth using (Muhammad has been the No. 26 player over the past week in which he played just three contests).

  • NBA Stock Watch: Kevin Love on the rise, Roy Hibbert falling

Dalton Del Don at Roto Arcade 6 days ago

Kevin Love: After a slow start to the season, he’s settled in with his new team in Cleveland, averaging 19.8 points, 12.1 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 2.1 3pt over the past nine games. Love is getting his fewest ppg (17.6) since his sophomore campaign back in 2009/10 and his fewest rpg (10.1) since his rookie season, which makes sense considering he’s sharing the court with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving now. Love’s Usage Rate (20.0) is way down and his lowest since his rookie year. Despite that, Love has remained a top-25 player this season, including being a top-10 value over the past two weeks. The Cavs are still figuring it out, and Love has to make some sacrifices (he’s attempted 5.7 fewer FG attempts and 2.7 fewer FTA per game this season compared to last), but he’s clearly going to remain an elite fantasy property regardless.

This shot by Cory Jefferson might be the worst in the history of the NBA (the announcers’ excuse is pretty great).

  • Mostly NFL Notes: Talking Dez Bryant and a look around the league in Week 15

Dalton Del Don at Roto Arcade 7 days ago

Dez Bryant secured 6-of-7 targets for 114 yards and a career-high three touchdowns. He was tough at the goal line and a little deeper as well...Tony Romo became the first player in NFL history to throw three touchdowns with no interceptions in four straight road games. In fact, he has a 15:0 TD:INT ratio over his previous five road games, as the Cowboys remain undefeated away from home (7-0) on the year...The Eagles punted down 11 points with 3:15 left in the fourth quarter...Those who banked on Philadelphia players during the critical Week 15 of the fantasy playoffs watched a team score 27 points with Mark Sanchez, LeSean McCoy, Jeremy Maclin and Jordan Matthews account for zero touchdowns.

I hate to be judgmental but yes, I do find this “weird.”

  • NBA Stock Watch: Pau Gasol is on the rise, while Derrick Rose continues to fall

Dalton Del Don at Roto Arcade 13 days ago

Pau Gasol: After a couple of down years during his last two seasons in Los Angeles, he’s bounced back in a big way in Chicago. Gasol’s 20.1 ppg is the third highest of his career, while his 11.9 rpg is his most ever. Over the last six games, he’s averaged 22.0 points and 14.7 boards. The Bulls are known for their defense, but the team also has a top-10 PACE this season, and Gasol’s Rebound Rate (18.6) is the best of his career. He’s been the No. 11 fantasy player so far, which makes him easily one of the best draft day bargains, although he was posterized by Cody Zeller last week

[Join FanDuel.com's $2M Week 15 fantasy league: $25 to enter; top 17,475 teams paid]

Kris Humphries: He’s averaged 12.8 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks over the past four games. Humphries’ fantasy value is reliant upon Nene Hilario’s health, but the latter continues to battle injury issues, putting the former firmly on the radar.

This Kirk Hinrich foul was inexplicable

  • Mostly NFL Notes: Talking T.Y. Hilton and a look around the league in Week 14

Dalton Del Don at Roto Arcade 14 days ago

T.Y. Hilton has scored six times over his past six games and saw a whopping 19 targets during Sunday’s win over Cleveland, when he hauled in nine catches for 141 yards and two touchdowns during the second half. Joe Haden is a bit overrated (Pro Football Focus graded him basically average in coverage entering this game), but the Browns have allowed just 6.4 YPA this season, which is tied for the third lowest in the NFL. Hilton is on pace to finish with 1,594 yards and nine touchdowns during the year of the short receiver. He’ll be a top-10 WR on all draft boards in 2015...Hard to believe Josh Gordon hauled in 2-of-7 targets for just 15 yards with Vontae Davis inactive...The Colts have 13 fumbles over the past three games, which is pretty insane considering they’ve managed to win all of them....Reggie Wayne somehow turned eight targets into five yards.

To call this person the worst driver ever would be an understatement

I’m not at all familiar with the WWE, but “CM Punk” joining the UFC is intriguing. Moreover, it was a good card Saturday night, although I lost money on Johny Hendricks, who lost a controversial decision.

  • NBA Stock Watch: Russell Westbrook is back, while Thad Young is falling

Dalton Del Don at Roto Arcade 19 days ago

Russell Westbrook: Not only did he return earlier than expected (he didn’t even miss a month when given a 4-6 week timetable), Westbrook became the first player ever in the shot-clock era to record 32 points and hand out eight assists in fewer than 24 minutes during his first game back, so he sure looks fully healthy. Kevin Durant might also return as soon as Tuesday, so Westbrook won’t be totally dominating all the OKC touches, but he should be a viewed as a top-10 fantasy asset moving forward.

[Join FanDuel.com's $2.25M Week 14 fantasy league: $25 to enter; top 20,675 teams paid]

Marc Gasol: He’s taken his game to another level so far this year, averaging 20.1 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.2 spg and 1.5 bpg while shooting 50.8 percent from the floor and 84.9 percent from the line, putting himself in the MVP conversation while leading Memphis to an NBA-best 15-2 record. Gasol lost weight during the offseason, and it’s paid big dividends, as his Usage Rate (24.2) and PER (23.64) are both career highs en route to being a top-10 fantasy player this year.

  • Mostly NFL Notes: Talking Le'Veon Bell and a look around the league in Week 13

Dalton Del Don at Roto Arcade 21 days ago

One game after rushing for 204 yards, Le’Veon Bell ran for 95 yards and a score and also secured 8-of-11 targets for 159 receiving yards, which means he gained a whopping 254 yards from scrimmage on fewer than 30 touches. Bell entered the week as Pro Football Focus’ No. 1 ranked running back, and his performance Sunday certainly didn’t dispute that. Bell is now on pace to finish with 2,252 total yards and seven touchdowns...Drew Brees entered with an 8:5 TD:INT ratio on the road this season, but he tossed five scores with zero picks in Pittsburgh despite somehow targeting Jimmy Graham ZERO times. The Saints were coming off a three game losing streak all at home, so this victory was huge, especially since the NFC South remains so wide open. Brees has gotten 9.4 YPA with an 8:1 TD:INT ratio over the past two weeks, so don’t go writing him off as a top fantasy QB just yet...Kenny Stills has totaled 260 yards over the past two games and has scored twice over the past three contests. There’s no question he’s become New Orleans’ No. 1 WR.

Here’s yet another pretty great “Key & Peele” sketch

  • NBA Stock Watch: Bradley Beal moving up, Andre Drummond down

Dalton Del Don at Roto Arcade 27 days ago

Bradley Beal: He’s back after missing the start of the season with a wrist injury, and despite coming off the bench, Beal has been a top-35 fantasy player (on a per-game basis). He’s unlikely to continue shooting better than 50.0 percent from the floor, but he’ll join Washington’s starting five soon and looks like a budding star. The third-year guard averaged 19.1 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.4 spg, 0.5 bpg and 1.5 3pt over the final month last season, giving a glimpse of the kind of upside Beal possesses.

[Join FanDuel.com's $1.75M Week 13 fantasy league: $25 to enter; top 14,530 teams paid]

Mo Williams: With Ricky Rubio sidelined for multiple weeks with an ankle injury, Williams has become Minnesota’s starting point guard after rookie Zach Levine failed during his brief opportunity. Over the three games since joining the starting five, Williams has averaged 13.3 points, 9.7 assists and 1.7 3pt. He’s a must-own as long as Rubio remains out.

Here’s Brandon Knight missing a wide-open layup at the end of overtime

  • Mostly NFL Notes: Talking Odell Beckham Jr. and a look around the league in Week 12

Dalton Del Don at Roto Arcade 28 days ago

Wide receiver used to be one of the toughest transitions to make as a rookie, but the 2014 class has disproven that, with Odell Beckham Jr. leading the way (Mike Evans is right there too, admittedly), as the No. 12 pick of this year’s draft has totaled 537 receiving yards and four touchdowns over the past five games after missing the start of the year (and most of the preseason) while dealing with a hamstring injury. Sunday night’s effort featured him grabbing 10-of-11 targets for 146 yards and two scores, including one that’s indisputably the catch of the year. Beckham became the first rookie WR to record 10 receptions and two touchdowns in a game since Anquan Boldin in 2003 (and just the third ever to do so). He’s a weekly top-12 fantasy WR without question...DeMarco Murray has run for 100 yards or more in 10 of 11 games...Rashad Jennings saw 10 targets and should be viewed as a top-10 fantasy RB down the stretch...The Cowboys are the only team undefeated on the road this season...If only Tony Romo was “clutch.”
