Tigers starting pitcher Jack Flaherty, who left his start in Texas on June 4 after just 60 pitches, is being pushed back a few days as a precautionary measure, manager A.J. Hinch. Flaherty reported some back stiffness in Texas but has passed all his tests and apparently won't require a trip to the injured list. Hinch said the pitching plan for the upcoming home series against the Washington Nationals is: Kenta Maeda (2-2, 6.25 ERA) on Tuesday; Reese Olson (1-7, 3.43) on Wednesday; and Casey Mize (1-4, 4.73) on Thursday.
Texas starter José Ureña had a perfect game through six innings when recent Detroit callup Justyn-Henry Malloy homered for his first major league hit, but the Rangers beat the Tigers 9-1 on Wednesday night.
Maeda, 36, threw a four-seam fastball for a strike and a slider for a ball, after which he winced. Catcher Jake Rogers headed to the mound, and manager A.J. Hinch, trainer Ryne Eubanks and interpreter Daichi Sekizaki headed there from the dugout.
