Zionsville boys kick off State Meet

Feb. 23—INDIANAPOLIS — The Zionsville boys swimming team kicked off the state meet on Friday night at the IHSAA State Finals prelims.

The top-8 in each event advance to the championship final on Saturday, with the next eight returning to the consolation final to score points.

In the medley relay, the Zionsville team of Colin Walrond, Lew Sams, Brady Hinshaw and Eli Dollens placed eighth in a time of 1:34.39.

In the 200-freestyle, Walker Mattice is the top overall seed after finishing in 1:36.77. Toby Dollens placed 17th in a time of 1:44.30.

Mattice was also the top-seed in the 100-free, finishing in 45.00.

In the 50-free, Brady Hinshaw finished tied for sixth in a time of 20.97 to reach the championship final. Hinshaw placed 21st in the butterfly in a time of 51.51.

The Zionsville 200-free relay team of Hinshaw, Mattice, Walrond and Toby Dollens finished first in the prelims in 1:24.11.

Walrond was 12th in the breaststroke in 50.97, and Sams was 10th in the breaststroke in 57.89.

The 400-free relay team of Toby Dollens, Nikita Hovyadinov, Eli Dollens and Mattice finished third in 3:08.34.

The State Finals start at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
