Zeeland East hosted its annual varsity baseball tournament on Saturday with Caledonia, Forest Hills Northern and Unity Christian, with the Chix falling short in the title game.

While the home team wasn't able to lift the trophy at the end of the afternoon, they did something that's arguably more special, at least for one of the players.

In the opening game of the tournament, Zeeland East defeated Unity Christian by a score of 4-0 behind a Trevor Raade no-hitter. Raade went all seven innings, striking out eight batters, walking three and hitting one by a pitch. Raade also picked off three runners in the game.

"Trevor was great today. He gives us a chance to win each time he steps on the mound. He has great moxy and mound presence for a sophomore," said Zeeland East coach Matt Sattler. "Today he worked ahead in counts and pounded the zone. When he does that he’s really hard to square up because He has tons of movement on all of his pitches. He is a special talent and an even better young man."

Offensively, Zeeland East was led by Easton Remick who had two hits in the game, two stolen bases, and a run scored. Max Salas added an RBI single while Austin Keur added a hit, stolen base and run scored. Charlie Lacny also added a two-RBI double.

On the other field, Forest Hills Northern defeated Caledonia 2-1.

In the championship game, Forest Hills Northern defeated Zeeland East by a score of 4-3. Zeeland East took a late lead in the game 3-2 on a Noah Ledford squeeze, but Forrest Hills Northern rallied back for two runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure the victory. Aidan Fredricks, Nick Williams and Jake Meyering all pitched solid in the game for the Chix, combining to allow only four hits.

Offensively, Easton Remick had a double, while Charlie Lacny had a single and run scored. Noah Ledford added an RBI single to take the lead late in the game.

In the consolation game, Unity Christian defeated Caledonia 9-2.
