After landing a $5000 fine for a vicious cross-check to the throat of 5”9’ Brendan Gallagher one week ago, Chara apparently apologized to his Original 6 rival.
Brendan Gallagher said Zdeno Chara called him to apologize after cross checking him in the throat. He appreciated the gesture.

The fiery sequence somehow earned both Chara and Gallagher coincidental minors on the play, Chara for cross-checking and Gallagher for roughing.
Chara was fined, but he avoided a suspension from the incident.

Regardless of the one-foot height difference that puts Gallagher’s throat in prime striking distance, it’s an extremely dirty play.
As we’ve seen this season, the NHL works in mysterious ways while handing out punishments. Canadiens head coach Claude Julien was fined $10,000, double the amount of Chara’s throat cross-check, for criticizing the officials following an overtime loss to the Dallas Stars on Saturday.
