Suns, Hornets want to hire Demps as GM
The New Orleans Hornets and Phoenix Suns are both aggressively trying to hire San Antonio Spurs executive Dell Demps as general manager and have submitted proposals to lure him, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Demps, the Spurs' vice president of basketball operations, met with Suns owner Robert Sarver and new team president Lon Babby on Monday and Tuesday. Demps boarded a flight to return home to San Antonio without agreeing to a deal with the Suns, sources said.
"He's torn," one league source said.
Demps is intrigued with the Hornets GM job because he’ll have more autonomy as the top basketball executive. Demps would work with the Hornets' new coach and a close friend, Monty Williams, to remake the team. With the Suns, Demps would be a clear No. 2 to Babby, a longtime player agent who is making the transition to team management.
