Yetur Gross-Matos sustained ‘pretty significant’ hamstring injury
Yesterday, the Carolina Panthers placed three players on injured reserve—with one coming as quite a surprise.
That surprise was outside linebacker Yetur Gross-Matos, who was listed with a hamstring injury. Head coach Frank Reich had a chance to expand on the nature of the setback on Wednesday.
“It wasn’t just a little strain, it was pretty significant,” Reich told reporters. “Those things are hard to gauge. Our trainers and doctors are great at sayin, hey, they think it’s gonna be . . . usually, on an injury like that, they’ll give a two-week window about how long it’s gonna take. You guys know how to do it—it’s a first-degree, second-degree, third-degree, that kind of stuff. We don’t report those kind of things, but it was more significant.”
Gross-Matos had been one of the few bright spots of the 0-6 start for Carolina. The fourth-year defender was excelling in his transition to a standup role, as he already recorded 2.5 sacks—just one off his career-high.
He will now miss at least the next four games.
