A tourist in Yellowstone National Park was gored by a bison Monday after approaching within 10 feet of the animal.

The 25-year-old woman, who was tossed into the air during the encounter, sustained puncture wounds and other injuries, according to a park news release. She was being treated at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Park regulations require tourists to stay at least 25 yards from bison, which are unpredictable and can weigh up to 2,000 pounds.
