Yellow Jackets release baseball schedule

Jan. 16—THOMASVILLE — The Thomas County Central baseball program released their varsity schedule and it is a tough one. The competition is filled with top teams in the state, multiple 20 plus win teams and a state champion in the region.

After a scrimmage with Thomasville, Central will face a brutal opening stretch. Of their first six opponents this season, five of them had winning records last year and four of them had 20 plus wins. Overall, The Yellow Jackets will face 17 different opponents, 11 of which had winning records. Nine of Central's opponents this season finished last year with 20 wins or more, including Houston County, who finished with 37 wins, just six losses and a state championship. Central will face six programs that finished last year ranked in the top 50 in the state

Speaking of region opposition, it's a bit of a mixed bag for Central. Houston County finished last season ranked as the number one team in the state and number 11 in the country, according to MaxPreps and Tift County was nestled in the midst of the top 25 in Georgia. Lee County was also very good last year, racking up 19 wins and finishing 19-13 on the season. However, Northside and Veterans also sit in the region with Central. Veterans had an okay year, finishing 13-14, but was 4-11 in region play. Meanwhile, Northside finished with just three wins all year and went 0-15 in region play.

As for Thomas County Central, they finished last season 20-16 and went 7-8 in the region. The Yellow Jackets surprised everyone in the playoffs, making it through Evans and St. Pius to the Elite Eight, where they fell to Etowah.

Fans will get a taste of what Thomas County Central is made of as they take the diamond against Thomasville for a scrimmage on February 6, before beginning their season on February 12 at Colquitt County. The Yellow Jackets will take their home diamond for the first time on February 21 against Chiles to begin the Jackets Diamond Day.
