Yasiel Puig's home reportedly burglarized for fourth time in 18 months
Yasiel Puig has been safe at home a lot lately, at least in a baseball sense after smashing five home runs in less than 24 hours during a weekend series in St. Louis.
Unfortunately, the same can’t be said of his actual home in Los Angeles.
According to a USA Today report, Puig was the victim of a home burglary for the fourth time since March of 2017 while the Los Angeles Dodgers battled the Colorado Rockies in a crucial division game Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium. It’s the third time Puig’s home in Encino, Calif. has been broken into.
The reported break-in happened around 8:10 p.m. PT. It wasn’t immediately clear if anything was stolen or what the value of those items might be.
Details of the latest burglary
According to the USA Today report, LAPD public information officer Jeff Lee says three African-American suspects in their 20s fled the scene in a black Toyota four-door vehicle. Police were dispatched to the scene after an alarm sensor was triggered.
Los Angeles Police Department public information officer Jeff Lee told USA TODAY Sports that a home on the 5800 block of Louise Avenue in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Encino was reported to be burglarized around 8:10 p.m.
Based on scanner traffic reviewed by USA TODAY Sports, police officers responded to an LAPD dispatcher that stated an address that matches Puig’s home listed in public records. The LAPD has a policy in which it does not name the victims of crimes in cases like this.
Details of previous burglaries
Puig was first burglarized in March of 2017 while the Dodgers were in Arizona for spring training. That occurred at Puig’s previous residence in Sherman Oaks, Calif. On that occasion, around $170,000 worth of jewelry was stolen.
After Puig moved during the season, burglars famously struck again at his new home in the San Fernando Valley during Game 7 of the 2017 World Series. That compounded a rough night in which the Dodgers missed an opportunity to celebrate a championship. However, it appeared to be a less costly burglary based on reports.
The USA Today story notes there was a police report filed for a burglary incident at the same home on Sept. 1 of this year, when the Dodgers’ were playing at home against the Diamondbacks on Sept. 1. No other details on that incident have been released.
It’s not yet clear if the burglaries are in any way connected, but it is clear the burglars are well aware of Puig’s worth (he’s earned nearly $42 million in MLB) and know exactly when he will not be home.
The LAPD says they have not specifically identified a suspect following Tuesday’s incident.
