The Yankees have placed Luke Voit on the 10-day IL due to a bone bruise in his left knee, manager Aaron Boone announced prior to Friday's game against the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium.

"Had some swelling over the weekend and then had that drained, but there was still some lingering pain there, was diagnosed with the bone bruise," Boone said. "We'll probably get some kind of PRP (platelet-rich plasma injection) potentially tonight and then hopefully a few days of rest, and hopefully get going from there."

Per Boone, the injury is to not related to the recent hit-by-pitch suffered by Voit.

The loss of Voit comes at an inopportune time for the Yanks, who just placed Aaron Judge, Gio Urshela, and Kyle Higashioka on the COVID-19 IL.

As far as how long Voit might be out, Boone wasn't ready to say.

"I don't want to put a timetable on it yet, but we're at least optimistic," he said.

Voit missed time earlier this season due to a right oblique strain.
