The Yankees made their deal with OF Brett Gardner official on Tuesday, moving Luis Severino to the 60-day IL to make room for Gardner on the 40-man roster.

Gardner's deal is for one guaranteed year and contains a player option for 2022. If the player option is declined, there is a club option for 2022.

The move to slide Severino to the 60-day IL was a procedural one, with Severino not expected back from Tommy John surgery until June at the earliest.

By moving Severino to the 60-day, the Yankees were able to avoid removing another player from the 40-man roster.

The same was not possible with their roster move for Justin Wilson, whose deal also became official on Tuesday.

Like Gardner, Wilson signed for one guaranteed year on a deal that contains a player option for 2022. If the player option is declined, there is a club option for 2022. If the player option is exercised, there is a club option for 2023.

To make room for Wilson on the 40-man roster OF Greg Allen was designated for assignment.
