The Yankees have reinstated Gleyber Torres from the 10-day injured list, the team announced Saturday. RHP Albert Abreu was optioned to the Alternate Site to make room on the roster.
Torres was placed on the IL with a left hamstring strain on Aug. 24 (retroactive to Aug. 21), and was initially given a 3-6 week recovery timeframe. After working out at the team’s Alternate Site, he’s ready to rejoin the Yankees ahead of schedule.
It’s been a disappointing 2020 season for Torres thus far, with the shortstop slashing .231/.341/.295 with one home run and six RBI in 24 games.
"It's frustrating," Torres said on Wednesday. "Players like myself, every time I see my team lose, it's not feeling really good. So I just try to prepare myself really good every day, try to be ready every day to help my team.”
If he is in fact ready to help the team, his first chance to do so will be against the Orioles on Saturday at 7:35 p.m..
