Whether you like the starting-strokes format or not, it's here.
The playoff finale takes a look at the current FedExCup standinsg and dishes out starting strokes in accordance with those standings. That's important for DFS purposes because all of the sites include some kind of bonus points for where your golfer finishes at week's end. Let's take a look at what golfers might benefit from their starting position but first take a peek at what golfers are striping it in the lead-up for the TOUR Championship.
There are very few courses on TOUR where ball-striking doesn't matter but at some courses we see that gap widen. East Lake is one of those courses where off-the-tee and approach form has mattered way more than how well a golfer is scrambling in the lead-up.
What golfers have the best ball-striking (off-the-tee plus approach) numbers over the last three events?
Scottie Scheffler ($21) is one of just two rookies to make it to East Lake this year. He flashed early in the season then cooled down but has found his groove again over the last month with an obvious highlight being the top 5 at the PGA Championship. He's been getting the job done with elite off-the-tee and approach play which makes him a very appealing value play at near min.
Finish Position Bonuses
It's always important to look at the scoring system for whichever DFS site you are playing.
For Yahoo, they give bonus points for finish position but only if you finish inside of the top 20.
There is also a big gap between finishing top 10 (8+ points) versus top 20 (3 points). When I see that, I immediately want to look for value plays that will have good odds of landing a top 10. Let's see where all 30 golfers will start the week...
Harris English ($24) will start the week in a share of sixth place but he's priced near the bottom of the salary board. The Georgia Bulldog hasn't played here since 2015 but he arrives in some of the best form of his career and he should be happy returning to some bermudagrass turf. This one seems like a no-brainer when looking to start a Yahoo roster this week.
Hopefully these stats will give you some names to dive into when it comes to researching your final selections this week over at Yahoo!
