The PGA TOUR heads to the Country Club of Jackson for this week's Sanderson Farms Championship.
We'll see a field of 144 golfers teeing it up. It's a par 72 that stretches out past 7,450 yards and features speedy, bermudagrass greens.
Let's look at some stats that might help us fill out our Yahoo golf lineups:
In yesterday's article I talked about bermuda performance but what about the putting in specific?
"It’s kind of an old-school, more of a putting contest where the greens are perfect." That's what Brandt Snedeker had to say about this course before last year's edition.
Looking at stats over the last year, these golfers have gained the most strokes putting on bermudagrass greens:
Doc Redman ($43) is an interesting name this week because his career putting baseline is worse than TOUR average. However, as you can see above, he finds his stroke when putting on bermuda. His ball-striking is always near the top of the field so if he can putt above field average this week then he should get into contention. You'll need that to happen for him to pay off this lofty price tag.
Par 5 Performance
The CC of Jackson has four par 5s and like usual, feasting on those holes is the easiest way to rack up birdies.
Last year's playoff contenders, Munoz and Im, played the par 5s at a combined 17-under for the week while the year before Cam Champ torched them with 12 birdies on 16 chances.
Looking at Korn Ferry and PGA TOUR data over the last year, these are the top par-5 performers compared to the fields they have faced:
Sam Burns ($29): The LSU product shows up on both lists and also has some "local" knowledge in his favor as he grew up about three hours from here. This looks like a mispricing because there are 51 golfers priced higher than him this week. I would expect extreme ownership but he deserves it at this price. The only reason to fade him on Yahoo is to pick up leverage and hope for a so-so week out of Burns.
Hopefully these stats will give you some names to dive into when it comes to researching your final selections this week over at Yahoo!
