Yahoo Golf Talk: 2020 Masters Tournament

The 84th running of the Masters Tournament is taking place this week at Augusta National Golf Club.

There is lots of rain in the forecast so the Sub Air system will be working overtime this week.

As of Wednesday morning there are 92 golfers in the field while that number will get trimmed to the Top 50 and Ties after two rounds of action. I mentioned it in the Monday preview, but as a reminder, there is no longer the "within 10 shots of the lead" rule.

Heading over to Yahoo Fantasy Sports, there are a handful of big contests posted for this week's event. The name of the game is to draft six golfers and collect the most hole-by-hole scoring points to go along with end-of-week finish position points.

The tournament may have been moved to November this year but the course is still the same, Augusta National Golf Club. There will be small changes in the setup due to turf conditions, weather, etc. but overall this is the same course that golfers have seen for decades now.

When building a DFS roster you need upside but also need cut-makers. Let's jump into some stats to see if any names pop off the page in terms of building a roster over on Yahoo this week.

Bentgrass Putting

The Augusta National greens are as fast as they come. The grass is bentgrass and they roll very pure.

These golfers have the best strokes gained putting stats on bentgrass greens, over the last two years:

Brendon Todd
Andrew Putnam
Jordan Spieth
Brandt Snedeker
Adam Scott
Kevin Na
Patrick Reed
Ian Poulter
Bryson DeChambeau
Patrick Cantlay
Webb Simpson
Jason Day
Justin Rose
Kevin Kisner
Jason Kokrak

Jason Kokrak ($26) is the big surprise on this list. We just saw him lap the field in putting en route to his maiden TOUR win at Shadow Creek. Another course with speedy, bentgrass greens. The bad news: he'll be making his tournament debut this week at the Masters so there is no course history to lean on with Kokrak.

Eagle Prowess

Augusta National is known as a risk-reward course and most of the reward comes at the par 5s. If you want to score for the week then you need to take advantage of the par 5s. The rest of the course is a grind.

Here are the most consistent eagle makers over the last two years. These are the golfers that are likely going to put lots of hole-by-hole Yahoo points on the board:

Jon Rahm
Rory McIlroy
Rickie Fowler
Collin Morikawa
Bubba Watson
Brooks Koepka
Webb Simpson
Adam Scott
Justin Rose
Tony Finau
Scottie Scheffler
Matthew Fitzpatrick
Matthew Wolff
Bryson DeChambeau
Cameron Champ

Bubba Watson ($26): He's a two-time champ at Augusta National. He does his damage with the driver but his iron play is also top notch when it's dialed in. It has been lately as he gained 6.2 strokes on approach at the U.S. Open and another 5.5 strokes on approach at the CJ CUP.

Hopefully these stats will give you some names to dive into when it comes to researching your final selections this week over at Yahoo!
