Yahoo Cup PGA DFS Picks: The US Open Championship

Looking for a way to learn PGA DFS without jumping in with both feet? We have a perfect solution for you. This year, Yahoo and Yahoo Fantasy are offering a $10,000 freeroll called the PGA “Yahoo Cup.” This contest awards a winner for weekly events and one winner at the end of the season who has the most cumulative points. That winner will receive $1,000. Ultimately, winning the Yahoo Cup comes down to picking the right golfers. Today I will provide my top three value PGA DFS picks based on Yahoo salary, a couple of lineup fill-ins, and two different lineup variations for building lineups this week at the US Open.

New to PGA DFS? Awesemo is the only site with projections from the No. 1 daily fantasy player in the world. Transparency Corner

Right or wrong, it’s important to keep track of how the picks performed the week prior. Here are the players and my corresponding lineup from Palmetto Championship.

  • Hank Lebioda (30th)

  • Keith Mitchell (Missed Cut)

  • Lucas Glover (Missed Cut)

Top Three Values for The US Open

Jordan Spieth ($39)

Coming as the 11th-highest-salary golfer this week, Spieth certainly has been far better than the 11th-best player on the PGA Tour over the last couple of months. His course history isn’t all that good either, with a couple of missed cuts and 35th being his best finish, but Spieth is a different golfer now than he was then. He is in a good spot to continue his good stretch of major golf and find himself inside the top 15 come Sunday, and at his salary, he will be good value.

Gary Woodland ($26)

While the missed cut at the Memorial was disappointing, Woodland’s putter was what let him down. If his ball striking remains good, he won’t have to worry about making as many of those birdie putts to compete this week, as a winning score in the single digits is expected. Don’t forget that Woodland is also a US Open champion, and that win came in California.

Erik van Rooyen ($20)

The talent is there, but the results have not been for van Rooyen. But after earning medalist honors over 36 holes at the US Open qualifier and following that up with a top-10 at the Palmetto Championship, things seem to be heading in the right direction. There is no reason to fade that at minimum salary.

PGA DFS Yahoo Cup Lineup Fill-Ins

  • Viktor Hovland ($39)

  • Tony Finau ($38)

  • Shane Lowry($27)

PGA DFS Yahoo Cup Lineup Builds

Aggressive Build

Instead of going balanced for those remaining four spots, try adding in Shane Lowry ($27), which should allow for just about any two- or three-stud combination.

Conservative Build

Building with this lineup provides six golfers who have a great chance of ending in the top 20 come Sunday despite giving up a little win equity on the other side.
