Christopher Crawford goes into why fantasy managers in need of outfield production should take a look at Washington Nationals OF Yadiel Hernandez.

Video Transcript

CHRISTOPHER CRAWFORD: Yadiel Hernandez will not be the first name you think of when you picture a Nationals outfielder. He might be the name you need to think about when you look at the waiver wire, however, assuming he's available, of course.

Hernandez punctuated a hot run on Saturday with a homer against the Angels. And over his first 19 games of the year, he's slashing .371, .400, .557 in 75 plate appearances. It would insult your intelligence to tell you whether or not that's remotely sustainable, but it doesn't have to be at that level to provide fantasy relevance. And the metrics here are impressive.

He's in the 90th percentile of hitters in expected slugging, the 87th percentile on barrel rate, the 82nd in expected batting average, and rates highly in several other categories as well.

Hernandez is 34-years-old and he was essentially avoided in drafts. His roster position changed after his hot start, but a 32% roster rate coming into the week is far too low. It's very unlikely you have players on your bench that are capable of contributing the way Hernandez is.
