WVU Potomac State College ranked 19th in preseason softball poll

Jan. 22—KEYSER, W.Va. — WVU Potomac State College was ranked 19th in the NJCAA Division II softball poll released on Monday.

The Catamounts went 43-5 overall last season and reached their second consecutive NJCAA World Series.

Only four players from last year's team are listed on this year's roster.

The most notable returner is Keyser graduate Alexa Shoemaker.

Last season, Shoemaker became the first player in Potomac State history to be named First-Team All-American.

She finished second in the country last year with a .586 batting average and fourth with a 1.140 slugging percentage.

The Catamounts added four players from the area. Bishop Walsh graduate Chloe Greise joins Keyser's Charity Wolfe and Petersburg's Braylee Corbin as incoming freshmen.

Emily Horn is a Frankfort graduate who is transferring from Allegany College of Maryland.

The Catamounts open their season on Saturday, Feb. 24 as part of the NJCAA Softball Jamboree that will be held at Patrick and Henry Community College in Martinsville, Virginia.

Potomac State will face Corning at 2:15 p.m. and Lackawanna at 4:30 p.m.
