Wrestling: Bulldogs top Pirates; Wildcats knock off Lions

Jan. 10—GREENSBURG — The Pirate wrestling team hosted EIAC foe Batesville Tuesday. Batesville was able to hold off the Pirates 42-33 to take home the rivalry win.

Batesville Coach Matt Linkel noted, "It was a great team effort, as the Bulldogs won six of the eight matches that took place by pin."

Batesville's Conner Shield (138), David Maher (157), Damien Dance (165), Kaiden Eckstein (175), Dylan Comer (190) and John Dirkhising (215) all won their match by pin.

Batesville's Max Amberger also added a win to his record by forfeit.

Greensburg's Cayden Beagle won a back-and-forth battle with Batesville's AJ Dance. Beagle trailed by one in the third period before rallying for the win.

The Bulldogs improve their team record to 18-11 on the season.

RUSHVILLE — The Lion wrestling team honored its seniors with Senior Night Tuesday against Franklin County. The visiting Wildcats left town with a 45-25 victory.

"We were defeated 45-25, but really the meet was much closer than the score suggests. We had a few matches that could have gone either way, but a few small mistakes hurt us. The emotions of senior night were also present and didn't help our focus," Coach Tush said.

"I am really proud of how we are wrestling right now though. Just a few minor adjustments can get us where we need to be for a very successful postseason," Coach Tush added.

The Lions return to the mat at 9 a.m. Saturday in the EIAC tournament at South Dearborn.
