CHARLES ROBINSON: Basically, what the Eagles did was they shuffled one of their first-round picks. They had three first-round picks. They shuffled one to 2023. And the Saints, who had one first-round pick, they pick up an extra first-round pick this year.

Overall, the Eagles got picks 18, 101, and 237 in this draft. 2023, they have the Saints' first-rounder. 2024, they have the Saints' second-rounder.

The Saints get the 16th overall pick and the 19th overall pick this year, and pick 194. So a [? three-for-five ?] swap.

Had a chance to talk to somebody about this this morning. And he said-- it was a league source. And he said, it's a pretty remarkable deal, he said, because this is a lot of picks. And not only that, he said, from a value standpoint, he was impressed.

So what I see Howie Roseman doing is everybody's talking about the quarterback. Hey, if Jalen Hurts doesn't work out, now you've got two first-round picks in 2023, you can potentially package those picks and try to move into a position to get a quarterback, because this isn't the year where really any of these quarterbacks in this draft might not be any better than Jalen Hurts. OK, fine.

But he said, look, it's more, you can see him setting up his ability to attack the core of his team, make it younger over the next three drafts, really hit it as hard as he can to stack it up, and make the team as young as possible. And, oh, by the way, if it's not going to be Hurts, let's say they draft a quarterback next year, positions them perfectly to take advantage of that--

FRANK SCHWAB: Yeah.

CHARLES ROBINSON: --quarterback window.

Given what people are saying about the quarterback class this year, I think it's smart if you're thinking not better than Hurts. Nobody here is better than Hurts. We're not going to draft a quarterback. You might as well move an asset to next year, and give you the opportunity.

And one other thing I want to tell you before you remark on this, the Saints, from what I understand-- I know there's been speculation out there, the Saints will package these two first-rounders to try and move and get a quarterback. What I was told is the intention here on April 5 is to use both of those first-round picks, as in, draft two players with both of those picks, not package them to move up.

Now, we'll see. Again, it's April 5. Who the hell knows? People can completely lie, or change their minds, or whatever.

But really interesting to see how Philadelphia's future is starting to take shape. A team that, frankly, it was not a bad team last year, who, I thought, played far better than I expected last year.

FRANK SCHWAB: I just thought this was a total win for the Eagles. I don't know what the Saints are doing really, because-- and maybe I'm wrong [INAUDIBLE] Saints fans might want to push mute for a second here. Joe Garza, I'm sorry. But I'm sure the Eagles were like, you're trading us next year's first? That could be top five.

I don't see how the Saints really, truly compete this year. I don't think they're going to be very good. I think they're going to be maybe not top five, but it's going to be in the upper half of the first round, I believe, unless you just completely kill this draft, which they could. They've done before with the Kamara [INAUDIBLE] draft.

But the Saints have always been this impulsive franchise. And even without Sean Payton, they still kind of are. It's like, what are you getting out of this? Why-- you traded a lot of assets when you should be think about rebuilding. You should be thinking about, we got to get this thing started again. And maybe they're just too stubborn to believe that their 2023 first is going to be a really, really valuable pick, whereas I just see the Eagles going, all right, we already had three. We could trade one and get an extra first and an extra second. Even if it is years down the road, it's why would I pass it up?

I rarely believe it's a good idea to trade future picks for picks now. You're just not getting proper value. You're always getting the worst end of it. I get, oh yeah, I get a pick today, and I get a player right now, and we're trying to win now, and the windows, but it almost always ends up that the team who takes the future pick is almost always happier with that end of the deal.

CHARLES ROBINSON: It's funny that you bring that up, because when I was talking about the trade with this guy, he literally said, the Saints seem to run their franchise like they're charging everything to credit cards.

FRANK SCHWAB: Right! That's a great point.

CHARLES ROBINSON: That's so funny--

FRANK SCHWAB: That's a great way to put it.

CHARLES ROBINSON: --that you said it, because that's totally what he said. He's like, they're living on credit from one year to the next. And they're constantly charging things to the credit cards--

FRANK SCHWAB: Right.

CHARLES ROBINSON: --that are going to come due down the line.
