Woman's nightmare hair salon experience terrifies TikTok users: 'She really thought she did a good job'

Hairstyling is an art — that’s why it should be left to professionals. Unfortunately though, sometimes even professionals fall short.

A woman took to TikTok to share the nightmare dye job she received from a professional stylist, and six million views later, it seems the results left her fellow users equally shocked.

“Yes this was done at a salon, no this was not her first ‘balayage.’ Yes I got my money back and reported her,” @btrevy16 wrote in her caption.

The video shows the Pinterest-worthy inspiration she was looking for when she set out to get “balayage,” a highlighting technique in which the stylist paints hair directly instead of painting foils for a more natural, blended color.

What she received was far from natural-looking, though. The photo showed yellowy-blond, rectangular chunks of uneven color in her long, dark brown hair.

After a while, @btrevy16 turned off the comments for the post but shared a few follow-up videos in which she gave the full story.

She said the stylist messed up so badly, they had to cut off six inches of her waist-length hair. It’s now been a few years, and it’s long again — and seems to have a lovely, subtle balayage.

“I think she really thought she did a good job,” @btrevy16 said in another post. She and the stylist argued for a couple of days, and she said it was difficult for her to get her money back, but ultimately things turned out OK.

“It sucked, but it was healthy in the long run,” she added. In response to a comment, she noted that her hair was “more fried than a Twinkie at the state fair” after the incident.

Commenters were shocked that any professional could mess something up so badly.

“I’m a stylist, and I’m honestly impressed by how bad she did,” one user said.

“Even when they cut it off, it was uneven. Horrible customer service I tell ya,” another wrote.

Most of the time, having good hair is worth the risk of having it messed up. If it goes wrong, at least you could get a viral post out of it.
