Woman fatally struck by NJ Transit train at crossing in Spring Lake Sunday morning

SPRING LAKE – A woman was struck and killed by a NJ Transit train Sunday morning at the Church Street crossing, according to a railway spokesperson who said the incident caused the cancellation of three trains.

The crash occurred at 9:19 a.m. North Jersey Coastline train 4721 departed Long Branch at 8:46 a.m. and was due to arrive in Bay Head at 9:31 a.m., according to Mariluzv Garcia-Diaz, a NJ Transit senior public information officer.

She said the 25 customers and crew on board were not injured and were transferred to another train to complete the trip.

Two additional trains on the same line were cancelled, but no other service disruptions occurred, officials said.

No other information was available on the victim and NJ Transit Police are continuing the investigation.
