The Black Hills girls basketball team got going on defense quickly Thursday at home and rode out to a 48-28 win over Centralia, clinching second place in the 2A EvCo and assuring themselves of a home opener in the 2A District 4 tournament.

The Wolves (15-3, 8-2 2A EvCo) ran out to an 18-1 lead after a quarter of play, not letting the Tigers (2-16, 1-9 2A EvCo) score a field goal until the second quarter.

That bucket came from Brooklyn Sprague — as did the other six field goals Centralia made on the night. Sprague finished with a game-high 23 points, including a 7-of-10 outing from the free-throw line. The rest of the Tigers combined to go 5 for 12 from the line.

Tyler Venable scored 15 points to lead the Wolves, and Ava Klovas added 10. Those two combined for 16 of Black Hills' 18 first-quarter points. Kiley McMahon picked things up in the second half, scoring all of her seven in the third quarter.

Both Centralia and Black Hills will be off until next week, and resume action with rivalries — the Wolves at home against Tumwater on Tuesday and the Tigers on the road against W.F. West on Wednesday.
