Wisconsin Women’s team takes down 12th ranked Michigan 78-70

The Wisconsin women’s basketball team took down 12th ranked Michigan 78-70 at home on Sunday. The victory over the Wolverines was the team’s first against their Big Ten rival since 2014 and their fourth win in their last five contests.

It was senior day at the Kohl Center and three Badger athletes were honored before the contest, forward Sara Stapleton, guard Avery LaBarbera and star wing Julie Pospisilova.

Playing in front of her family for only the second time since her freshman year, Pospisilova put on a show, scoring 25 points while also adding six rebounds, five assists and two blocks in her final contest at the Kohl Center. She has now scored at least 20 points in four of the last six games to end the regular season.

Joining Pospisilova in double-digits Sunday were teammates Maty Wilke (15), Serah Williams (14) and fellow senior Avery LaBarbera (12) while Brooke Schramek (9) was particularly aggressive on the defensive end, recording three steals and three blocks.

The Badgers (11-19) won three straight Big Ten contests for the first time since the 2010-2011 season and they will now enter the Big Ten Tournament as the 10th seed and face Purdue in the first round on March 2 at 5:30 PM.

The culture appears to be changing in Madison under dynamic head coach Marisa Moseley, now in her second season at the helm.
