Wisconsin parade rampage suspect gets $5 mln bail

The man accused of driving his SUV through a parade in Wisconsin appeared in court Tuesday, charged with homicide.

WAUKESHA COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY SUSAN OPPER: "Today we learned of another death of a child related to this case. We do expect a sixth count for first degree intentional homicide."

Prosecutors said an 8-year-old boy had died - the first death of a child in the incident that injured more than 60.

Authorities said 39-year old Darrell Brooks deliberately drove an SUV through police barricades on Sunday into Waukesha's annual Christmas parade.

WAUKESHA COUNTY COURT COMMISSIONER KEVIN COSTELLO: "Two detectives, not lay people, detectives, not only tried to stop this, but rendered an opinion that this was an intentional act. You're presumed innocent, sir, but that's what the allegations are."

The court commissioner set bail at $5 million dollars after hearing a laundry list of Brooks' previous charges and convictions across three states.

Including charges from just three weeks ago.

"The allegations in that case, your honor, are that he struck the mother of his child in the face with a closed fist. Then as she was walking away from him, he intentionally ran her over with his vehicle."

Brooks had been released after posting $1,000 cash bond on November 11. Records show he had been charged with obstructing an officer, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and felony bail jumping in a domestic abuse case.

Shortly before Sunday's rampage, police said they received a domestic disturbance complaint involving Brooks and a knife.
