Wilson wins, Berks Catholic loses in District 3 girls basketball quarterfinals

No. 2 seed Wilson defeated No. 10 seed William Penn in a District 3 Class 6A girls basketball quarterfinal on Thursday night at West Lawn.

The Bulldogs (24-2) advance and will host No. 3 seed Central Dauphin (21-2) in a semifinal on Monday at 7 p.m. The Rams beat No. 6 seed Manheim Township 56-46 in a quarterfinal on Thursday night.

Wilson led the Bearcats 9-3 after one quarter and 19-10 at the half. William Penn (15-9) outscored the Bulldogs 15-13 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 32-25, but Wilson was able to hang on for the win.

Sophomore Laila Jones led the Bulldogs with 18 points and freshman Kailani Hardy scored 14 points. A'Shyia Smith led the Bearcats with 12 points.

Bishop McDevitt 66, Berks Catholic 43

No. 5 seed Berks Catholic fell to No. 4 seed Bishop McDevitt in a District 3 Class 4A girls basketball quarterfinal on Thursday night at Harrisburg.

The Saints (12-2) led 12-10 after the first quarter. The Crusaders (17-6) outscored the Saints 17-13 in the second quarter to take a 27-25 lead into halftime.

Bishop McDevitt outscored Berks Catholic 39-18 in the second half to seal the win. Olivia Grella led the Crusaders with 18 points.

Junior Sydney Corado led the Saints with a career-high 28 points. Berks Catholic will host No. 8 seed Eastern York (13-11) in a consolation semifinal on Monday night at 7 p.m., with the winner clinching a berth in the PIAA playoffs.
