Williams, pitching outstanding in Guardians' 4-1 spring win over Mariners

Mar. 5—Gavin Williams and the Guardians' staff who worked the March 5 game against the Mariners turned in some of their best work of the spring so far in a 4-1 win.

Williams went 2 2/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits, walking none and striking out five.

The relievers who came in after Williams combined for 6 1/3 shutout innings of one-hit ball.

Emmanuel Clase (1-0) got the win with a scoreless frame, fanning one.

Joey Cantillo tossed two shutout innings, striking out a pair, and Jack Leftwich got the final three outs for his first save.

Will Brennan paced the offense with a 2-for-3 day that included a double and a pair of RBI. Ramon Laureano belted a solo home run in the fourth.

The Guardians return to action March 6 against the Brewers at 3:10 p.m.
