William Jackson Harper Reveals How He Maintains His Carb and Sugar-Free Diet

Some of us have strict eating regiments, and that includes actor William Jackson Harper. Unlike his The Good Place character Chidi Anagonye, Harper knows exactly his eating do’s and don’ts, and he sticks to it too—though he does have the occasional cheat day (cue the cocktails). In the latest edition of Eat Like, the actor spoke to Men’s Health and revealed what he eats to maintain his carb and sugar free diet.

Harper starts the day off pretty simple with a bowl of plain yogurt—topped with blueberries and a few packets of stevia— and a quarter cup of cereal. Even he can’t resist the temptation of flavoring bland yogurt. “I usually use plain yogurt and the bitterness is a bit much for me,” he says. “I’m kind of a wuss, so I need to sweeten it up with something else.”

As for lunch, Harper uses Snap Kitchen, a delivery service that he says helps him stay on track. Most of the meals consist of high protein—chicken, steak, the good stuff—and low carbs and fat. His reasoning for bulking up on protein? There’s less temptation to snack when you’re full from meat. Though, when he is “snacking,” his choices are relatively healthy. “Throughout the day, I’ll usually have raw nuts or smoked salmon with rice crackers,” he says. “If I’m craving something sweet, I’ll have Kombucha.”

His dinner is the same as his lunch: a prepackaged meal full of protein. And, his go-to’s for his pre-workouts? A cup of coffee for cardio and yogurt and cereal for a HIIT session. There’s nothing special about his diet—it’s pretty standard. Which might be the total opposite of what you’d expect from the actor known for playing perhaps the most indecisive man to ever grace the TV screen.
