Fires cause Rams to cancel practice on Friday
The Los Angeles Rams have had things other than football to worry about this week.
The Rams were profoundly affected by the shooting that left 12 dead at a Thousand Oaks bar this week. The Rams practice less than five miles from the site of the shooting, and many players spoke about the tragedy on Thursday.
On Friday their thoughts shifted again. The Rams canceled practice on so their players and staff would have time to make sure their families are safe due to the wildfires in the Thousand Oaks area, according to Rich Hammond of the Orange County Register.
Football isn’t the main focus for the Rams or anyone else in the area this week.
Rams play Seattle on Sunday
The Rams play the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at the Los Angeles Coliseum. The stadium is more than 40 miles from Thousand Oaks, so presumably the game itself won’t be affected.
Before the game there will be a moment of silence for the victims of the shooting.
“Our organization’s thoughts and prayers are with the families and the victims that were affected by this terrible act that took place in our area,” Rams coach Sean McVay said Thursday, according to the team’s site.
Then came two separate brush fires, which spread and caused 75,000 homes to be evacuated in Ventura County, according to ABC7, with many road and school closures.
