Monique Samuels knew that the current fifth season of “The Real Housewives of Potomac” would be a tough one for her — so much so that she is already looking forward to it ending.

The mother of three, who joined the hit Bravo show in its second season, was involved in a physical altercation with fellow castmate Candiace Dillard Bassett, a moment that the network teased heavily in the run-up to the highly-anticipated season and one that Samuels is eager to put firmly in her rearview.

“I really just want to get the season over with,” she told In The Know’s Gibson Johns during a recent interview to discuss the series. “A lot of times when I’m doing interviews or if I’m just talking to people in general, everyone’s asking about the fight.”

Noting her podcast, “Not For Lazy Moms,” her new book, “Potty Training Mommy and Daddy,” and her new single, “Drag Queens,” which references her blowout with Dillard Bassett, Samuels said that she has more than enough else going on that she’d rather discuss.

“When I’m talking to people, it’s not just focused on that negativity,” she told us. “They’re like, ‘Oh, wow, what inspired your music? I can’t believe you’re rapping again.’ And so that’s been nice to have something else going on to talk about.”

“I’m all about turning a negative into a positive. So that’s what I was trying to do, and it gave me peace,” Samuels went on. “It allowed me to kind of take it all in and then let certain things go and positively move forward. And I feel way more confident going into the season. I’m just ready. Like, I feel more prepared, and I feel more at ease.”

That being said, as the implosion of her relationship with Dillard Bassett, who joined in season 3, airs on Bravo, and her co-stars also do press to promote the show, Samuels has found herself having to still speak on the topic in order to defend herself and accurately share her side of the story. It was that feeling that prompted the reality star to go live on Instagram in early August in a widely-watched breakdown of what was really happening behind the scenes.

“A lot of people were saying, ‘Wow, now I get it,’ because they could feel my energy watching each episode. But to them, it really didn’t make sense why I was so upset about such a small incident to them. And, once they realized the backstory, they were like, ‘Oh, I get it now. Now I totally understand,'” she explained to ITK. “Now people can kind of see behind [Candiace’s] mask and see that you were not innocent in this, and you did not — ‘Oh, I thought that this or I thought’ — you knew exactly what you were doing. And now everyone who did watch the live, they get the full picture.”

“It was good for me. I was able to get it off my chest. Some things I wasn’t going to address, but after she went live, it was necessary that my husband and I address and give everybody the full picture,” she went on, referencing Dillard Bassett’s own Instagram Live. “I’m a very forgiving person. I try to be the bigger person a lot, especially when it comes to this circle of women. And sometimes I have to put certain things that I feel on the back burner in order to get along, and I have no problem doing that. But that whole issue cut really deep. And, for two seasons, I had to just suck it up and just say, ‘You know what? I’m going to just move forward and just take things as they come.’ And that’s what I’ve been doing ever since, [but] it gets to a point where you just explode.”
