It's a warm, gorgeous day outside in Missouri — while Hawaii is under a blizzard warning
File this under "things we never thought we'd say." Get outside Friday and enjoy this Missouri December weather, because it's likely much nicer than what's going on in Hawaii.
Springfield will enjoy a high of 73 degrees Friday with sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service online forecast. Columbia and Independence will also be sunny, although slightly cooler with highs in the upper 60s.
But if you've been dreaming about a getaway to Hawaii? You might want to rethink that for now.
A blizzard warning in Hawaii is in effect from 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday morning. According to the National Weather Service, the Big Island summits in Hawaii could get up to 12 inches of snow and have wind gusts of more than 100 mph. Strong winds will likely cause significant drifting of snow, the NWS warns.
Aside from the blizzard warning, a Kona low is expected near the islands starting on Saturday night. Kona storms are a type of seasonal cyclone in the Hawaiian Islands, usually formed in the winter from winds coming from the westerly "Kona" direction, according to NWS.

In Missouri this weekend, we can expect somewhat cooler temperatures with highs in the 50s and 60s, and a chance of rain in Springfield and Columbia, before highs dip back into the upper 30s to lower 40s early next week, according to NWS forecasts.
