Where Texas lands in USA TODAY Sports Re-Rank after the loss to Kansas

·1 min read

As expected, Texas tumbled in the USA TODAY Sports re-rank of every college football team this week.

The loss to Kansas in Week 11 was one of the worst in program history. The Jayhawks had not won a conference road game in 13 years until they traveled to Austin to defeat the Longhorns 57-56 in overtime.

Texas has now dropped five consecutive games for the first time since 1956.

The shocking upset bumped Kansas up 12 spots in the re-rank this week to No. 109, while Texas dropped 11 spots to No. 70. Here is where each Big 12 team ended up:

No. 7: Oklahoma State

No. 9: Oklahoma

No. 12: Baylor

No. 34: Kansas State

No. 39: Iowa State

No. 57: Texas Tech

No. 70: Texas

No. 76: West Virginia

No. 83: TCU

No. 109: Kansas

Steve Sarkisian and his staff are facing an uphill battle in terms of improving this roster. It’s inexcusable to lose to a substantially lesser opponent like Kansas, and there’s no question that next season must produce better results.

It’s too premature to call for a coaching change, and a program like Texas could benefit from some consistency on that front. A culture change, along with improvements at several position groups this offseason, will make or break Sarkisian’s tenure with the Longhorns.
