West Virginia forward Wesley Harris facing charges after allegedly breaking man's nose in road rage incident
West Virginia forward Wesley Harris is facing two misdemeanor counts of battery and destruction of property after a road rage incident last month, according to the Charleston Gazette-Mail.
According to the report, the victim had driven the wrong way up a road in Morgantown, West Virginia, on July 16 due to a temporary closure, and met Harris head on in the road. The two exited their cars and started arguing in the road. The victim said that Harris then threw him against his car, causing a large dent and scratch. He then pushed the victim to the ground and punched him in the face multiple times, breaking his nose.
Harris was identified by a bystander who also works for the Mountaineers athletic department.
“We are aware of the situation, and the matter is being handled internally,” a West Virginia spokesperson told NBC.
Harris started every game for the Mountaineers last season in their Sweet 16 run, averaging 5.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest.
Harris was also reprimanded by the Big 12 after he struck a Texas Tech fan who bumped into him while storming the court after the Red Raiders knocked off West Virginia last season in Lubbock, Texas. That public reprimand didn’t require Harris to miss any games or time, though the Big 12 did fine Texas Tech $25,000 for the court storming incident.
