Nov. 6—Northern hosts Allegany and Mountain Ridge heads to Clear Spring today in the Maryland Class 1A West Region I volleyball semifinals. Both matches begin at 6 p.m.
The Huskies (11-3) received a first-round bye as the regions' top seed. They'll welcome fourth-seeded Allegany (9-6), which swept fifth-seeded Hancock, 25-17, 25-16 and 25-15, in its playoff opener.
Second-seeded Clear Spring (13-3) — the defending Class 1A state champions — swept seventh-seed Southern in the quarterfinal round. Third-seeded Mountain Ridge (12-3) swept sixth-seeded Fort Hill, 25-19, 25-21 and 25-4.
Mountain Ridge, a 2021 Class 1A state finalist, has won the past two West Region I titles, falling in the state quarterfinals last year.
Clear Spring and Hancock were shuffled into West Region I last year after competing in West Region II previously. The Blazers have won four state championships (1993, '94, '18, '22).
