Timo Werner sheds his defender brilliantly and finishes off a great individual effort to give Chelsea the lead against Southampton.
When Le'Veon Bell signed his four-year contract with the Jets prior to the 2019 season, the deal was worth $52 million with $27 million guaranteed. Bell's contract with his newest team, the Kansas City Chiefs, is much more modest. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Bell's new deal has a base value of $1 million, but that money is prorated to $690,000 for the remainder of the season.
Ozuna left early on what would have been a sacrifice fly with his team leading in the third inning, and the game soon turned in Los Angeles' favor as the Dodgers stayed alive in the NL Championship Series with a 7-3 victory in Game 5 on Friday night. The Braves still have a 3-2 series lead after a bullpen game that started well but went awry, with their top two starters lined up for the final two games. Left-hander Max Fried pitches for the NL East champions on Saturday.
Veteran ESPN NFL reporter Vaughn McClure has been found dead at his apartment in Atlanta at the age of 48. No cause of death has yet been announced for McClure, who covered the Atlanta Falcons for ESPN's NFL Nation section. The broadcaster, who was born in Chicago, was a regular contributor to ESPN's coverage of the Falcons on TV and radio, and covered the team's Super Bowl LI run in 2017, where they lost to the New England Patriots.
The Lakers never found a third star around LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Which means the Lakers have plenty of moveable pieces if a star becomes available. “Chris Paul would love to come back to L.A. I know it would be a dream come true for Chris,” an Eastern Conference executive said.
Mike Weber was a Kansas City Chiefs running back for a minute in their Super Bowl season. The former Ohio State star is putting his Super Bowl ring up for auction not long after he and his teammates received it. Manufactured by Jostens, this exquisite 10 karat gold ring was presented to running back Mike Weber, who was signed to the Chiefs' practice squad in January of 2020 after being released by the Dallas Cowboys.
Willie Allen's nomadic college career has featured many twists and turns. The latest came Thursday, when the offensive tackle made a surprising revelation and announced his commitment to Michigan nine days before the Wolverines play their first game. On Friday, a source inside the Michigan football program said Allen, who left Louisiana Tech and entered the NCAA transfer portal Monday, won't suit up this fall after he already declared his intention to skip the season.
Last winter, the team viewed Gregorius as a winning player who had simply lost too much of his first-step quickness. Given the extent to which some Yankee fans appear to be clamoring for Gregorius to return, this seems worth teasing out a bit and explaining. Gregorius was always a subject of some debate between the analytics folks in the organization, who liked him less than the scouting wing (that's a reductive framing, because most people on both “sides” of this “divide” are multi-dimensional thinkers, but works for this summary discussion of the dynamic).
The Miami Dolphins are gearing up for a Week 6 contest against the New York Jets in a clash of two teams that seem to be trending in opposite directions. The Dolphins, by design, hit rock bottom in 2019. What's going to be the big storyline from Jets vs. Dolphins in Week 6?
This Sunday the AFC North battle between the Cleveland Browns (4-1) and Pittsburgh Steelers (4-0) is the game of the week. Pittsburgh has a pretty interesting injury report that lists two key offensive starters as out. The injury report released by the Steelers lists both starting guard, David DeCastro and starting wide receiver, Dionte Johnson as out for Sunday's contest.
Ever since Washington quarterback Dwayne Haskins was benched a little over a week ago, a bunch of rumors have been swirling, including the idea that the team has been desperately trying to trade away the former first-round pick, and that the second-year QB asked for a trade. While none of those rumors have been confirmed, that doesn't stop an of us from speculating on what might happen and trying to drum up some of our favorite trade scenarios. Earlier this week, we pondered his teams in the NFL would give Haskins the brightest future, allowing him to develop and grow in a structured environment with a veteran quarterback ahead of him.
Trailing the Ravens 27-0 on Sunday, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor sent his field goal team on the field with 37 seconds left to avoid a shutout and lose 27-3. Ravens defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale was not amused. Asked today for his reaction to that field goal, Martindale said Taylor knows his reaction because he was screaming at Taylor across the field for what Martindale considered a bush league move.
Andy Dalton has never passed for more than 4,293 yards in a season, but he also hasn't had the weapons the Cowboys have. He has started 133 career games, winning 70 of those, and has more experience than Prescott. Prescott had started 69 games in a row, with now offensive coordinator Kellen Moore the last quarterback not named Dak Prescott to start at quarterback in a game for the Cowboys.
Carmelo Anthony is third in all-time points scored as a Denver Nugget (13,970). In 2009 he led the Nuggets to the Western Conference Finals (where they fell to the eventual champions, the Kobe/Pau Gasol Lakers). Portland, Anthony's current home and place he resurrected his career, fired back.
Armed with a high draft pick for the first time in years, the Warriors have quite a few options to consider when they are on the clock. According to Mike Schmitz of ESPN, citing agents and executives around the league, James Wiseman is considered to be the most likely pick for the Warriors if they hold onto the pick. He would help fill a need in the frontcourt and his athleticism makes him a good fit with the Warriors' style of play.

The Boston Celtics' roster ain't broke, but it still may need some fixing. The Celtics rode a talented core to Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown made the leap to stardom, while Kemba Walker, Gordon Hayward, Marcus Smart and Daniel Theis gave Boston a top six that rivaled few in the league.
Fred VanVleet, the undrafted point guard out of Wichita State who has grown into a key part of the Toronto rotation, is the biggest name free agent player who might actually switch teams this summer. Technically Anthony Davis will opt out and be a free agent, but he's not leaving the Lakers. Brandon Ingram is a restricted free agent, but the Pelicans will max out the All-Star wing.
Almost a year after her first career win, she led Federica Brignone for an Italian 1-2 finish in the season-opening women's World Cup giant slalom Saturday. Bassino held on to her first-run lead to beat her teammate and defending overall World Cup champion by 0.14 seconds.
An ill-advised roster decision, DeSean Jackson's contract, a rookie I want to see more of and the smallest crowd in Eagles history. 1. Here's what bothers me about the Eagles losing Casey Toohill: They kept Vinny Curry instead. Now, Curry is one of my favorite Eagles of the last decade.
Defensive lineman Zach Sieler is in his second year playing for the Miami Dolphins. While the 25-year-old, who played college ball at Ferris State, makes $44,118 per week on his NFL contract, he isn't living in some fancy, South Beach digs. I actually stay in an RV during the season.
