These were the most popular songs on TikTok in 2021
Music is huge on TikTok. A song can rise from obscurity to topping the Billboard Hot 100 thanks to the viral nature of the app.
No shade, but it's time to stop mooching off your parents' Amazon Prime — here's why
TikTok released its top 10 trending songs of 2021. This year new artists were discovered and celebrated across the app. Some songs would go on to achieve blockbuster success while others drove dance trends and funny memes. Either way, music was key to some of TikTok’s brightest moments in 2021.

1. “Adderall (Corvette Corvette)” — Popp Hunna
Michael Le was one of many TikTokers who danced to Popp Hunna’s “Adderall (Corvette Corvette).” The sound has over 20.5 million videos associated with it.
Biannca Raines went viral when she danced to LPB Poody’s “Batman,” which has been used in 2 million videos.
3. “Bundles (feat. Taylor Girlz)” — Kayla Nicole
Kayla Nicole’s “Bundles” was the perfect song to hype up @andreawiththecurls as she styled her hair. The sound has been used 232,000 times.
4. “Kiss Me More (feat. SZA)” — Doja Cat
Artist @clairesalvo painted SZA onto a dollar bill as the artist and Doja Cat’s hit single “Kiss Me More” played. The viral track was used in 2.5 million videos. Meanwhile, the collaboration went on to top the Billboard Hot 100 and earned three Grammy nominations.
Up and coming rapper Coi Leray scored a TikTok hit when her song “TWINNEM” became a meme about celebrating best friends. Just check out TikToker Cece and her dog rock matching outfits to the song. The sound has 1.6 million videos associated with it.
After earning major success with collaborations, “Up” became Cardi B’s second top-charting solo single after “Bodak Yellow.” This solidified her as the only female rapper with multiple solo Billboard Hot 100 number ones and the female rapper with the most number ones overall.
TikToker @yehslacks used “Up” to score herself doing some seriously cool acrobatics. The song has been featured in 1.7 million TikToks.
Rapper Erica Banks released “Buss It” in May 2020 and it was a smash hit on TikTok by early 2021. The song sparked a transition trend where people, like Brenna Lietke’s 104-year-old grandma, showed off their befores and glamorous afters. There are currently 4.3 million videos associated with the sound.
8. “Astronaut in the Ocean” — Masked Wolf
The bizarre lyrics of Masked Wolf’s “Astronaut in the Ocean” meant that some loved the song and others hated it. Originally released in 2019, the song was re-issued after going viral on TikTok on Jan. 6. It eventually peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100.
Despite the mixed feelings, the single has been used in 7.8 million TikToks. Jay Brewer used the song in a video where he handled a massive white snake.
9. “Punk Monk” — Playboi Carti
Rapper Playboi Cart’s track “Punk Monk” launched the “don’t talk to me” meme where people shared their deal breakers. The song has been in 2 million videos, like this one where @dashawneclipse dissed anyone with a distaste for sushi.
10 “drivers license” — Olivia Rodrigo
Gen Z and millennials alike fully embraced Olivia Rodrigo’s debut single “drivers license.” The song’s virality (and speculated love triangle) would blast Rodrigo into superstardom, top the Billboard Hot 100 chart and make her debut album Sour a mega success.
