On Sunday, we bore witness to the fall of Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs signal-caller, long considered impervious to error or damage, careened back down to Earth like a crashing meteor. He struggled to do much of anything against the vaunted Jacksonville defense, effectively proving his humanity when we all thought he was something beyond…
…Just kidding. So Mahomes had his first “bad” game of the season — by his standards. Big deal. The 23-year-old had been nothing short of masterful until Week 5, where he faced his first stiff test of the season. Sure, he threw two picks and ended his passing-touchdown streak, but the Chiefs still put up 30 points and over 400 yards of offense in a victory. Mahomes might not be a superhuman, but he’s pretty good even when he’s not perfect.
He’ll face another test against the New England Patriots in Gillette Stadium, a notoriously difficult venue to win in for a visiting team. Mahomes will have to trade blows with future first-ballot Hall of Famer Tom Brady — Sunday night fireworks for fantasy lineups, indeed!
Also upcoming, Joe Mixon will try to take advantage of a juicy matchup against Pittsburgh, Adam Thielen will try to continue his historic yardage streak against Arizona, and Vance McDonald will try to bounce back against Cincinnati.
