Week 1 Injury Wrap: Mike Evans questionable, Kenny Golladay doubtful

Generally we expect the Week 1 injury report to be tame, with most of our big names ready to roll. But the 2020 season isn’t going to play by the rules.

Mike Evans (hamstring) looms as a game-time decision at New Orleans. The Buccaneers listed him as doubtful Friday, but he was upgraded to questionable Saturday. If Evans can’t go, Justin Watson would see extra outside snaps, while third receiver Scotty Miller could draw a few extra targets. Tampa Bay’s backfield is muddled, with Leonard Fournette, Ronald Jones, and LeSean McCoy all looking at possible roles.

Kenny Golladay (hamstring) isn’t expected for the home opener against Chicago; he’s listed as doubtful. The Lions also aren’t sure on Danny Amendola (hamstring), who’s questionable. D’Andre Swift (hip) had a full practice Friday and should play, though he’ll share work with Kerryon Johnson and Adrian Peterson.

Jalen Reagor (shoulder) logged two full practices this week and has a chance to play at Washington. Alshon Jeffery (foot) will not play. But after a week of optimism, Miles Sanders (hamstring) was ruled out Saturday. Boston Scott is the next back up.

• Although David Montgomery (groin) ended the week with two full practices, the Bears still list him as questionable. Is Matt Nagy being coy here? Mitch Trubisky opens the year as Chicago’s starting quarterback, but he’s obviously on a short leash. I expect Nick Foles to start at least half of the Chicago schedule.

• N’Keal Harry (shoulder) had a setback Friday and is considered questionable for the revenge game against Miami. I’d like to see a week from New England’s new passing game before I started anyone proactively.

Courtland Sutton injured his shoulder Thursday and could be a game-time decision for the Monday opener against Tennessee. Have other pivots ready, just in case.

• With Ryquell Armstead (Covid) or Devine Ozigbo (injured reserve) unavailable, the Jaguars will likely need James Robinson to be their featured back against Indianapolis. Chris Thompson is ready for third-down and hurry-up packages.

• The Chargers might have Mike Williams (shoulder) available at Cincinnati, but after an interrupted summer, he can’t be in your Week 1 plans.

A.J. Green (hamstring) was limited most of the summer, though he worked back up to full practice by the end. I can’t start him without a prove-it game first.

Diontae Johnson (foot) was rested Thursday but returned Friday, making him likely to go Monday at the Giants.

Denzel Mims (hamstring) had a lost summer and isn’t on the fantasy radar right now. Sam Darnold will need to rely on the targets he knows, Jamison Crowder and Chris Herndon.

Golden Tate (hamstring) has been limited all week, making him too risky for Week 1. If you need a Giants wideout, Sterling Shepard or Darius Slayton are reasonable options against Pittsburgh.
