Sept. 13-14 Roundup: Sheridan, River View girls soccer keep pace in MVL race

Plenty of teams were in action on Thursday, and the results are below:

Girls Soccer

Tri-Valley 4, Philo 0: Maddie Garber scored twice and Ellah Knowlton also had a goal in a three-goal second half for the Scotties.

Tri-Valley's first goal came via a Philo own goal in the first half, as the Scotties led 1-0 at the break.

Scarlett Shanks made 13 saves for Philo, and Mackenzie Harvey had two stops for Tri-Valley, which owned a 13-2 edge in shots on goal.

John Glenn 3, Maysville 0: Riley Zamensky knocked in a pair of goals and assisted the third, as the visiting Muskies (6-2, 4-1) kept pace in the Muskingum Valley League race.

The game was scoreless at the half before Zamensky scored at the 36:19 and 33:25 marks of the second half, while her assist to Estelle Matheney made it 3-0 with 30:16 left in the match.

Faith Lemon made one save on one Maysville (2-6-1, 2-4) shot, while Panther keeper Josalynn Milatovich made 13 saves on 16 shots.

Sheridan 2, Coshocton 0: Dylan Gibbs scored off a Mikenna Schiele assist and Claire Shriner added a goal on a breakaway during the first 12 minutes of the game, as the Generals improved to 5-1-1 with a MVL win.

Kendall Harter posted the shutout in goal for Sheridan, while Lilly Braxton shined in the midfield for the Lady 'Skins, as keeper Courtney Snyder had four saves and Sophia Skelton made a non-keeper save.

River View 12, Morgan 0: Alyssa Fox knocked in four goals and Ava Walsh and Kylan Wesney had two goals each, as the Lady Bears (7-3, 5-1 MVL) held the Raiders to one shot in league action.

Paisley Miller, Kylie Miller, Madison Graham and Baleigh Custer also scored, and Antonia Werner had four assists and Kylie Miller had one.

West Muskingum 7, New Lexington 0: Allison Latier knocked in four goals with two assists as the Tornadoes shut out the Panthers.

Dara Decker added two goals, Grace Caton had a goal, Debra Allen assisted a score and Ava Hoops made four saves for the winners.


New Lexington 17, 25, 26, 25, River View 25, 21, 24, 22: Chloe Dick connected on 19 kills with five digs and three aces and Trinity Cook contributed 14 kills, nine digs and a pair of aces, as the Panthers outlasted the Lady Bears in MVL play.

Abby Wilson added nine kills, four blocks and four digs, Jorja Burkhart set up 40 assists with eight digs and Gracie Newlon chipped in 12 digs and three aces for New Lex.

Haley Balo paced River View (8-3 MVL) with 18 kills and three blocks, Kelsie Smith had 35 assists, 16 digs, three aces and 100% serving, Brittany Henderson chipped in 15 digs with 100% serving, Layla Olinger hit seven kills and Ava Donnell had nine kills and two blocks.

Tri-Valley 25, 25, 25, Morgan 12, 15, 20: Eva Dittmar hit 21 kills and Annika Collet and Sami Cameron made eight blocks each in the Scotties' sweep.

Ingrid Dittmar passed out 19 assists, Caity Journey made eight digs with 13-of-13 serving, Landyn Andrews was also 13-of-13 serving and Collet added five kills for the winners.

John Glenn 25, 25, 25, Crooksville 13, 11, 13: Emma Dolan tallied 11 kills and four digs and Emma Briggs chipped in 10 digs, nine kills and three aces to lead the Muskies (6-6, 4-4) in a sweep of the Ceramics.

Lauren Blair got the offense going with 28 assists and made a team-high 16 digs, while Aleea Musselman had 13 digs, four aces and three kills, Sarah Gardinsky four kills and two blocks, Sarah Wayne 10 digs, Faith Hayes six digs and two aces, Brelynn Barr six digs and Miley Ault three kills.

Julianna Locke totaled 18 digs and Madison Rambo had six points to lead Crooksville.

West Muskingum 17, 25, 25, 25, Maysville 25, 18, 20, 17: The Tornadoes topped the Panthers in a MVL crossover.

Rachel Jarvis had 17 digs, seven kills and three aces, Olivia McPeek added 12 assists and 11 digs, Bekah Scott made 14 digs with two aces and Kendyl Deal chipped in eight digs, two assists and two aces for Maysville.

No leaders were available for West M.

Meadowbrook 25, 25, 25, Philo 21, 21, 11: The Colts swept the Electrics to bounce back from Tuesday's loss.

Sophomore Addy Sichina tallied 10 points, seven kills, nine digs with senior Taylor Sichina also scoring 10 points, seven kills for Meadowbrook (8-1, 7-1 MVL). Junior Katie Stoney finished with six points, six kills and Addy Wiggins dished out a team high 24 assists with three digs.

Olivia Winland made 14 digs with four kills, Makenna Staker added 12 digs and five kills, Briannah Wolfe had four kills, Caitlin Rose tallied three blocks and Aleigha Busse contributed 10 digs for Philo.

Edison 25, 21, 26, 25, 15, Cambridge 23, 25, 28, 9, 6: The Bobcats dropped a close first set by a mere two points before coming back to win the second and third sets. Unfortunately, the team ran out of steam and lost the final two sets to lose the match.

“We are working on starting strong and not dropping the first set,” CHS first year coach Lyndsey Hummell said.

Senior Abby Mann paced the Lady Bobcats with 14 points and one ace at the service line, 15 kills, three blocks, and 15 digs. Bailey Anderson scored 11 points with three aces, eight kills, 14 digs, and three blocks. Kaitlyn Biddle scored eight points three aces, and recorded 10 kills, three blocks, and 21 digs.

Cambridge travels to Beaver on Saturday at 12 p.m.

Boys Soccer

Sheridan 2, Lakewood 2: Freshmen Kasen Miller and Ike Kausek, as the Generals rallied twice from one-goal deficits to earn the draw.

West Muskingum 5, New Lexington 1: The Tornadoes picked up a road win in league play.

Tusky Valley 2, Coshocton 0: The Redskins fell to the undefeated Trojans.

Marietta 12, Morgan 1: The Tigers topped the Raiders in non-league play.

Watkins Memorial 1, Zanesville 0: The Blue Devils fell in a closely-contested match in LCL play.


Maysville boys 151, Meadowbrook 172: Owen Lutz fired a 1-under 34 for medalist honors and led the Panthers to a win on the par-35 front nine at Eaglesticks.

Cade Pickrell carded 38, Hoyt Dodson 39 and Gator Nichols 40 for Maysville, while Ben Coss carded 38, Owen Dennis 40, Stephen Grafton 44 and Damon Baier 50 for the Colts.

West Muskingum boys 173, Philo 177: Reid Lemity shot 40 to pace the Tornadoes in a win over the Electrics at Fuller's Fairways.

Clayton Clewell added a 43 and Nick Anton and Kyle Porter had 45s for the winners, while Philo's AJ Layton took medalist honors with a 37. Josh Gooden chipped in a 43, Deacon Scott 48 and Derek Randolph 49 for the Electrics.

Golfers at Fairfield Union this evening and the news is Rocco Stanton with a new personal best of 43 and Alijah Cox with a personal best of 51.

River View boys 184, Morgan 186: Medalist Thad Cox fired 36 and Caleb Kline chipped in 37 to lead the Black Bears past the Raiders at Hickory Flats.

Isaiah Carpenter shot 53 and Reid Johnson 58 for RV; Austin Dille paced Morgan with a 40, as Kaden Garrett had 46 and Wyatt Weaver and Emma Miller 50s.

Fairfield Union boys 157, Sheridan 158, Teays Valley 183, New Lex 192: Canyon Daly carded 36 for medalist honors, as the Generals went 2-1 in a quad at Pumpkin Vine.

Owen Cains chipped in a 38, Cody Hupp 40 and Gage Toothman 44 for Sheridan, while Rocco Stanton fired a personal best 43 and Alijah Cox added a personal-best 51 for the Panthers.

Ridgewood boys 194, Newcomerstown 229: Zach Evin posted a 42 and Wade Thompson 47 to lead the Generals to a win at Hickory Flats.

Kyle Johnson added a 49 and Gage Gress a 56 for Ridgewood, while Jordan Miller's 55 led the Trojans.

Meadowbrook girls 200, Philo 214: Alyx Leach and Peyton Rogers had 46s to lead the Colts past the Electrics at Fuller's.

Philo's Brianna Mortimer earned medalist honors with a 40, as Taiylor Winland added 52, Grace Hargraves 53 and Khloe LaMay 69, while Layla Gray had 50 and Liv Gray 58 to round out Meadowbrook's scoring.

Cross Country

Ridgewood competes in Sandy Valley Quad: Aydan Salmon finished third (18:57), Brodi Hardesty 11th (20:00) and Cohen Miller 13th (20:03) to lead the General boys, while Kenzie Bice took second in the girls race in 20:35 and Victoria Palmer was 15th (24:38).

Wednesday's results

Boys Soccer

River View 4, Dover 3: Parker Andrews knocked in a pair of goals with an assist, as the Black Bears moved to 9-1 with a win over the Crimson Tornadoes.

Hayden Walters added a goal and two assists, Brody Stevens also scored and Cael Summers added an assist for the winners.

Rosecrans 3, Harvest Prep 1: Grady Labishak scored twice and assisted the other goal as he surpassed 100 career goals to join Weston Nern as the only Bishop boys to reach that milestone.

Tizian Schmelzer added a goal and an assist and Steven Porter made four saves in the Bishops' win.

Cambridge 9, Union Local 1: The Bobcats boys’ soccer team stayed red hot with a 9-1 victory over Union Local on Wednesday in Buckeye 8 action.

With the win, Cambridge extends its winning streak to improve to 3-5-1 on the season

Markel Villapalos led the Bobcats with three goals along with a pair of assists, while Coen Stoner scored twice and Ben Rivers, Dillon Hartley, Rylan Mathews and Karsen Wood each tallied a goal.

Rivers, Hartley, Brody Dyer, and Ezekiel Bergeson each added assists for thr winners. Quentin Stora led the CHS defense with a pair of saves in goal.

Cambridge returns to action on Saturday at Bishop Rosecrans with a 7:30 p.m. start time.

Girls Soccer

Circleville 4, Rosecrans 1: The Tigers topped the Bishops in non-league action.

Licking Heights 6, Zanesville 0: The Hornets topped the Lady Devils in Licking County League action.

Sandy Valley 4, Ridgewood 0: The Generals fell to the Cardinals.

Girls Tennis

Newark 5, Cambridge 0: The Lady Bobcats tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision to Newark in tennis action on Wednesday afternoon.

In singles action, Selina Garcia lost 6-0, 6-1, Madison Peebles lost 6-0, 6-0, and Alicia Banal lost 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles action, the top doubles team of Miranda Cole and Emma Krise lost 6-3 and 6-4 while the second doubles team of Maglia Garcia and Reese Antill lost 6-2, 6-0.


John Glenn boys 144, New Lexington 186, Crooksville 205: Owen Van Fossen carded 35 for medalist honors, as the Muskies moved to 21-0 in the MVL with a win at Perry Country Club.

Noah Dever and CJ Dolan posted 36s and Braden Rice shot 37 to round out John Glenn's scoring.

Rocco Stanton and Brandon Stevenson carded 45s, Hunter Heaven 46 and Peyton Everett 50 for the Panthers; Bo White posted a 37, Gabe Sandefur 48, Drew Horn 58 and Briden Hall 62 for the Ceramics.

Sheridan boys 147, Coshocton 190: Medalist Cody Hupp shot 34 to lead the Generals in a win at Coyote Run Golf Course. Canyon Daly added a 35, Wyatt Satterfield a 38 and Owen Cains a 40.

No leaders were available for Coshocton.

Cambridge golfers compete at OVAC 4A event: The Bobcats golf' team participated in the OVAC 4A Golf Championship Tuesday on the Jones Course at Speidel Golf Course.

Bradyn Gregg finished in 9th place overall with an 89 to lead the Bobcats' effort, and Jackson Reed finished 13th overall with a 91.

Cambridge will be back in action Saturday at the Black Bear Invitational at Hickory Flats Golf Course in West Lafayette.

River View girls 188, Philo 211, West Muskingum 221: Chloey Geog shot a personal-best round of 43 to lead the Lady Bears in a tri-match on Senior Night at Hickory Flats.

Kortnee Mickle added a 44, Caily Shriver 47 and Addyson Blair 54 for River View, while the Electrics' Brianna Mortimer was medalist with a 34.

River View also defeated Tri-Valley on Monday, 196-220, as Mickle shot a career-best 40, Geog had a 46 and Shriver carded a 47. No leaders were available for Tri-Valley.
