WEDNESDAY PREP ROUNDUP: Effingham softball falls to Salem; Windsor/Stew-Stras, South Central softball teams earn victories

Mar. 21—SALEM, Ill. — The Effingham softball team only recorded two hits in its 7-0 loss to Salem on Wednesday in Marion County.

Natalie Armstrong and Madi Kirk provided the knocks for the Flaming Hearts (1-1).

Saige Althoff and Armstrong pitched for Effingham. Althoff threw four innings, allowing five hits, four unearned runs, and one walk to four strikeouts. Armstrong threw two innings, allowing three hits, three runs, and one walk to four strikeouts.

As for the Lady Wildcats, Isabella Decker had three hits (one double). Breanna Thurman had two hits. Lilly Blagoue had one hit (one home run). Marah Johnson had one hit (one double), and Natalie Lee had one.

Thurman pitched and allowed one walk to four strikeouts — with the two hits — in seven innings.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg defeated Arcola, 10-0, in Douglas County.

Alaira Friese and Mya Friese had two hits, and Samantha Hayes and Erin Althoff had one for the Hatchets (1-0).

Hayes pitched and allowed three hits and one walk to seven strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.

Olney (Richland County) 23, Toledo (Cumberland) 14

Cumberland fell to Richland County, 23-14, at Toledo Volunteer Field.

Jade Carr, Ashton Tolen, and Katie Kingery had three hits. Jadalyn Sowers had two, and Libby McGinnis, Noraa Cross, Avery Donsbach, Shelby Kingery, and Suzi Fritts had one for the Lady Pirates (0-5).

Mia Holsapple and Aubrey Himes pitched for Cumberland. Holsapple allowed 16 hits, five earned runs, and two walks to three strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Himes allowed seven hits, six earned runs, and three walks to one strikeout in 1 1/3 innings.

Farina (South Central) 13, Cisne 1

South Central defeated Cisne, 13-1, in Kinmundy.

Kaitlyn Swift had two hits, and Taegan Webster, Lauren Johnson, Abi Shuler, Karli Holmes, Noa Leerschool, Perci Reid, and Emily Rose had one for the Lady Cougars (3-0).

Kinlee Thompson pitched and allowed four hits and one run with nine strikeouts in five innings.


Arcola 6, Windsor/Strasburg (Stewardson-S.) 0

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg fell to Arcola, 6-0, in Douglas County.

Kendall Morris had two hits, and Branson Tingley had one for the Hatchets (2-2).

Jackson Gurgel and Tingley pitched for WSS. Gurgel allowed four hits, three runs, and three walks to seven strikeouts in three innings. Tingley allowed four hits, three runs, and two walks to two hits in three innings.

Olney (Richland County) 20, Toledo (Cumberland) 8

Cumberland fell to Olney (Richland County), 20-8, at Toledo Volunteer Field.

Blake McMechan had three hits. Hudson McElravy had two, and Wyatt Jackson, Maddox Miller, and Bryson Weber had one for the Pirates (2-3).

Kade McMechan, Jackson, Miller, and Lance Lock pitched for Cumberland. Kade allowed five hits, eight runs (five earned) and five walks to three strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings. Jackson allowed one hit, two runs, and two walks to three strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings. Miller allowed two hits, seven runs (five earned) and five walks in one inning, and Lock allowed one hit, three runs (two earned), and four walks to one strikeout in one inning.

Farina (South Central) 10, Cisne 0

South Central defeated Cisne, 10-0, at Lions Field in Kinmundy.

Coen West had three hits. Colby Bursott, Maddox Robb, Evan Hoover, and Max Magnus had two, and Brody Markley and Trevan Sidwell had one for the Cougars (3-0).

West and Chase Guerrettaz pitched. West allowed two walks to six strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings. Guerrettaz allowed two hits with four strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.
