Feb. 23—Washington Catholic had its Senior Night Thursday at the Bird Cage for seniors Jesus Gomez, Isaac Halter and Justin Sipes and celebrated with a 55-50 win over Cannelton.

Halter ended the night with 23 points, Sipes added 20, Davey Wagner had five, Aiden Henry with four, and Abdu Askar with an important three. the win moved WC to 2-19.

WC looked sluggish the first quarter but rode the back of Halter and his defensive energy/steals during the quarter. WC led at the half 24-22 still not playing great basketball. They came out slow the third quarter and fell behind by nine before a timeout was called by coach Billy Nolley. Better defensive intensity and a few executed set plays cut the score to 40-37 with :02.2 and WC with the ball. The Cards were able to find Askar, a sophomore, for a shot from just inside half-court line to tie the score 40-40 at the end of the third. Unfortunately, Henry incurred a major injury and was taken to the hospital. WC outscored the Bulldogs 15-10 in the final quarter to secure its second win of the year.

The Cardinals take on Class A No. 2 Barr-Reeve on Wednesday in the Loogootee Sectional.
