What exactly is the reasoning behind the Boston Celtics handing out extensions to Marcus Smart and Robert Williams III? At first, it seemed like new President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens and the rest of his Celtics front office cohort were aiming for max contract cap space by moving starting point guard Kemba Walker and letting veteran shooting guard Evan Fournier walk.

But then the flurry of extensions doled out by Boston have eliminated that path, meaning something else is afoot. In an effort to get to the bottom of what the Celtics might be up to, hosts of the CLNS Media “Winning Plays” podcast Rich Levine and Brian Robb debated the potential avenues the team might be looking to explore on their most recent episode.

Watch the clip embedded below to get up to speed on what Boston may be considering in the shorter-term future of their team-building endeavors.
