It’s officially game day on the Forty Acres.

A sense of renewed hope is in the air as the Steve Sarkisian era at Texas will officially kick off on Sept. 4 at 3:30 p.m. The Longhorns will look much different than last season with a new coaching staff, fresh young face at quarterback, and numerous other players stepping into starting roles for the first time.

Redshirt freshman Hudson Card officially won the quarterback competition over Casey Thompson. It will be Card’s first career start for Texas, and it happens to come against an experienced, talented and well-coached Louisiana team.

It’s the first ranked matchup for the Longhorns in the season opener since 1984. Texas enters Week 1 ranked No. 21, while Louisiana sits at No. 23. Regardless of all of the moving parts for Texas this offseason, expectations for the 2021 season are as high as they’ve ever been.

As if fans weren’t already excited enough to kick off the new era of Texas football, the Longhorns social media department released a hype video days before the season opener.

Sarkisian also mentioned the home field advantage that Texas has for the season opener.

“We have a unique home field advantage here. I’m looking forward to getting off the bus, walking down through the fans. I’m looking forward to the buzz and the stadium and pregame. I’m looking forward to the roar of the crowd. I love college football, I love everything about it, if that doesn’t get you chills, then you need to go find another profession.”

The city of Austin has quickly rallied around Sarkisian and his staff, now results must be produced on the field.
