WATCH: Ron Rivera informs Sam Howell he’s a Washington Commander
The Washington Commanders selected North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell with the No. 144 overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft. Is Howell Washington’s future franchise quarterback?
Howell joins Washington as the third quarterback on the roster behind Carson Wentz and Taylor Heinicke. The good news for Howell and Washington is there are no expectations for 2022. The former UNC star was projected to go in the earlier rounds, perhaps to Washington.
Washington’s official Twitter account captured the moment Howell learned the Commanders were selecting him via a phone call from head coach Ron Rivera.
“Yes sir, thank you so much, Coach,” Howell said when Rivera told him the Commanders were selecting him. “You won’t regret it, I promise.”
