Watch: Patriots' Rob Gronkowski speaks hilarious inner monologue out loud
New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is really good at football, but he can also be pretty funny, even when it might not be intentional. And on Sunday, he gave a little glimpse into the reality of being a Patriots player.
On Sunday, after Brandin Cooks scored a 5-yard touchdown with 6:31 left to play, effectively slamming the door on any hope of a Miami Dolphins comeback, he jumped onto the back of Gronkowski, who is about eight inches taller and 75 pounds heavier.
As Cooks slapped Gronkowski’s shoulder pad, Gronkowski started lifting his knees high, like a horse. It was all in good fun, and the type of touchdown celebration that has made this NFL season a bit more enjoyable.
Asked about it in his postgame news conference, Gronkowski gave a hilarious answer.
“Yeah, that was not planned or anything. We got yelled at; we’re not allowed to talk about celebrations. That’s what we got told. But I kind of want to talk about it,” Gronkowski said, leaning forward over the podium toward the questioner. “But I kind of don’t because I’ll get in trouble. So I don’t know what to do.
“So, it just happened on the spot. It wasn’t planned. We’ll just keep it there.”
For the record, Gronkowski is 28 years old, scored the 74th and 75th receiving touchdowns of his career against Miami, and is on the books for $4.25 million in base salary this season. And he’s still afraid of making Bill Belichick angry discussing a little fun he had on the field with one of his teammates.
The tight end also joked with reporters on Friday that he was upset with Tom Brady because Brady didn’t bring him any of his biscuits, the ones he made for Thanksgiving with his beloved late grandmother’s recipe, but getting two touchdowns were an acceptable substitute.
“I guess those were the biscuits. I guess he wasn’t making any more, so he made up for it. But I still want those biscuits,” Gronkowski said.
